Choose a sleeping bag from expected sleeping conditions and its stated comfort guidance. An extreme survival rating is not a comfort promise.
Establish the sleep setup
Ask where you sleep, what bedding is supplied and whether a mat or liner is required. A refuge bunk and a tent need different planning. Confirm the arrangements for your actual booking.
Compare ratings and fit
Read the manufacturer's explanation of comfort and limit ratings. Consider whether you usually sleep cold and check room for your feet and shoulders. Do not compress insulation by choosing a bag that is too tight.
Protect and check the bag
Keep it dry inside the pack. If renting, confirm rating, condition, cleaning and availability. Use the winter Toubkal checklist when discussing overnight requirements with Atlas Hikes. Buy or rent for the agreed setup rather than a generic sub-zero label.
