If remaining water will not cover the route, reassess early. Do not continue toward a summit hoping to find a refill.
Tell the group
Compare supplies and identify a confirmed refill or exit. Reduce avoidable exertion and stay together. A map symbol or an old trip report does not verify water availability today. Give your guide this information before the next scheduled stop.
Avoid another problem
Do not wander off alone searching for a spring. Clear stream water is not automatically safe to drink. If someone becomes seriously unwell, seek urgent assistance rather than treating the problem only as an empty-bottle issue.
Improve the departure check
Agree who carries water, where refills are expected and what happens if one fails. The Atlas water-planning guide helps organise those questions. Water arrangements belong in the route plan as well as the packing list.
